The Pimoroni NVMe Base Duo (PIM704) adds two NVMe SSD slots to a Raspberry Pi 5. It suits file servers, media centres, reverse proxies, and home automation servers with built-in backup, especially workloads with many small random operations (high IOPS) or those that benefit from redundancy across two disks.
Pimoroni recommends running the Pi 5 at PCIe Gen 2 x1 speed with this board, giving around 450 MB/s total, or roughly 220 MB/s+ per disk during simultaneous access, since the two drives share bandwidth through the switch. Drives rated PCIe Gen 3 or better are recommended, though the Duo operates at Gen 2 speeds. SSDs are not included. You will need a Raspberry Pi 5 and an SD card for initial setup, and the Pi should be powered off before installing the board.
